This is a sustainable domestic garden. It has been designed to appeal to the ‘conscience consumer’ - consumers who increasingly put sustainability, climate change and ethical, social and organic values at the forefront.
The garden includes some exciting green initiatives, such as harvesting rain water ,and not using any chemical pesticides or manure. With fruit and vegetables, a wildlife habitat and recycled materials, the garden demonstrates that you can be green, grow your own and still have a great looking garden.
A screened composting area featuring attractive bins for plant and domestic biodegradable waste provides a further reminder of the garden’s commitment to environmentally responsible practice.
The planting is lush, floral and delicate, It is a warm, peaceful setting, naturalistically planted and with finely handcrafted details.
A number of paths take different routes through the garden at varying degrees - highs and lows - to represent a journey through shifting and unpredictable moments in life.
A large pond surrounds this area, which faces onto the lawn and is secluded and open at the same time. the pond provides a calming focal point among a mass of flowers and foliage, which fill the garden. It is enclosed by a hedge-framed upper walk, partially shaded by a natural pergola created by trees. In a recess in the mound, as a focal point opposite the pergola dome, sits a bench.
Planting according to colour, shape and texture is combined with plant requirements; gardening with both heart and mind.
The paths are surfaced using permeable materials that allow rainwater to penetrate into the ground rather than running off into the drains and selecting plants to suit their habitat reduces the need for watering.
